Vladimir (population 350 000) is located approximately 185 km (3 hours by car) northeast of central Moscow. The City is situated on the northwest side of the Klasma River, a tributary of the Volga River system. The city extends for approximately 17 km in a southwest to northeast direction, and about 10 km at its widest point (northwest to southeast). A tributary of the Klasma River divides the city into the main central and southwest districts (roughly 2/3 of the area) and the northeast district (1/3 of the city).
