Ryazan (population 540 000) is located approximately 195 km (3 hours by car) southeast of Moscow. The City is situated on the south side of the Oka River, a tributary of the Volga River system. The city extends for approximately 15 to 20 km in a southeast to northwest direction, and about 10 km at its widest point (north to south).
