Orenburg (population 600 000) is located on the Ural river, approximately 1225 km east-southeast of Moscow (2 hours by plane), and approximately 150 km north of the Kazakhstan-Russia border, on the western steppes of the Ural Mountains. Most of the city is situated on the north side of the Ural River.
